Lanah gazed at the pair she’d released from their stony prison.
A goblin and an ogre, both small for their species. They didn’t look too scary, but you could never be too careful.
She took a step back.
Kolab and Graplin stepped forward. Kolab dropped to his knees and embraced her lower legs.
“Thank you, thank you.” His voice broke. “That evil wizard Molac turned us to stone when that tree was barely a twig.” He pointed to a spreading oak whose mossy bark showed its great age.
“As I suspected,” said Lanah. “What are you going to do now?”
